2007 - 2008 Board of Directors

Rabbi Yossi Brackman is the director of the Chabad Jewish Center at the University of Chicago and Hyde Park. He was born in London, England and received his education at the Lubavitch House Schools.

While pursuing his studies in London, Montreal and New York, Yossi was involved in communal and children’s programs in the UK, Seattle and Parksville, NY, and traveled to Dnipropetrovs’k, Ukraine to work at a special “Passover camp” for kids.

In 1997 he arrived in Chicago, joining an energetic team of people founding the Lubavitch Mesivta of Chicago – a Yeshiva – on Chicago’s North Side. At that time he completed his studies and received rabbinical ordination.

Following their marriage Yossi and Baila (a native Chicagoan) traveled to Shanghai for a summer to serve the needs of the expatriate Jewish Community. In September of 2000 they moved to Chicago to lay the groundwork for the eventual founding of the Chabad Jewish Center. In February of 2001 they moved to Hyde Park and have successfully established the Chabad Jewish Center in the heart of the University of Chicago campus.

Rabbi Brackman enjoys teaching and studying Torah, cantorial music and most of all spending time with his family.
