2007 - 2008 Board of Directors

Sara Segal Loevy grew up in Chicago and Evanston, and moved to Hyde Park with her husband, Steven Loevy, in 1975 after living for six years in Iowa City. They raised their son, Nathaniel, in Hyde Park, using an eclectic combination of both the public and private school systems. Sara’s secular education includes a BA in Rhetoric and English from the University of Illinois in Champaign and a doctorate in Public Health from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is a graduate of the Consolidated Hebrew High Schools of Chicago and attended Camp Ramah in Wisconsin.

Sara founded The Loevy Consulting Group in 1989 after working for fifteen years in academia, hospitals, and survey research. In the early years of consulting, the firm concentrated on developing, implementing and analyzing surveys and focus groups, creating membership databases, identifying key labor force issues and assessing the effects of affirmative action programs, and designing and executing program evaluations. More recently, her work has expanded to include organizational assessments, proposal review for foundations, and proactive grant-making. When her husband joined the firm in 2002, she began to work with him on strategic fund-raising.

Sara has been an officer of Congregation Rodfei Zedek for ten years, serving as President from 2001-2005. She is currently Vice-President for Membership and Communication. Her most satisfying means of participating in synagogue life is as a volunteer Torah reader.

As President of Rodfei, she worked closely with Miriam Kass and Harvey Loeb when they served as co-Presidents of Akiba-Schechter. The Loevy family has long supported Akiba-Schechter, as donors and as volunteers, and Steven served as a consultant to the capital campaign. An avid antique collector, some of Sara’s finds make their way to the tables of Akiba’s annual silent auction.
