2007 - 2008 Board of Directors
Stephen Molasky grew up in Asbury Park,
New Jersey. He graduated from Princeton University with a degree in Slavic
Languages and Literature. He studied acting in New York City, was drafted
into the Army, and served in Vietnam. He spent a year at the Unitarian theological
school in Berkeley where a visiting professor, Rabbi Jacob Milgrom, awakened
Stephen to the knowledge and beauty of Judaism. Stephen was a resident manager
of Huckleberry House for Runaways in Haight Ashbury. He spent a decade at
San Francisco Juvenile Court, and obtained a Masters Degree in Psychology
with a focus on family counseling.
Tired of government bureaucracy, Stephen moved to Chicago. Marshall Bennett,
a prominent Chicago real estate developer, gave Stephen his first break,
managing the financing and construction of the Hyatt Hotel in Schaumburg,
IL. Stephen became a registered financial advisor in 1982, worked as a portfolio
manager for private clients with UBS Financial Services and is now a Managing
Director at Bear, Stearns & Co.
Stephen is married to Deborah Molasky, who teaches in the Akiba pre-school.
Nora & Jerome both started Akiba in the pre-school. Nora is now in 8th
grade and Jerome graduated in 2006. He’s now a student at Walter Peyton
College Prep. The Molasky Family is a big fan of Akiba-Schechter, and has
been active in the Capital Campaign.
